There are few silhouettes I love more than a fit-and-flare dress. Combine that with Athleta’s knack for comfortable and versatile leisure wear, and the santorini thera dress is a big winner. I scooped this one up in a rich shade of plum.
Right now, there are limited colors and sizes of this dress available on Athleta’s site, but you can find lots of colors and sizes at good prices on both Poshmark and eBay, including plenty that are new with tags.
I’m wearing this dress in XXS, my usual size in Athleta, and it fits perfectly. The fabric has stretch to it, so sizing is easy to get right. I suggest ordering your true size. Because of the generously cut skirt, be sure to select the size based on your usual size in tops, not your size in bottoms. I am 5’3″, and I like that the length hits right above my knee. I’m wearing the regular length, not petite–I think the petite would be too short for my personal preference.
The arm openings are cut slightly narrow, so the straps of a regular bra will show a little. Even the sports bra I’m wearing in these photos peeks out at the armholes just slightly. Crossback bras will work best if you prefer a clean look.
The dress is made of a thicker fabric that is not see-through at all. The fabric is a tencel modal, which is so soft and feels great to wear. The fabric feels similar to cotton, not like technical fabric. The little bit of spandex means it’s easy to move around and not feel constricted. After a few washes, it hasn’t pilled or shown signs of wear.
Moving into the cooler season, this dress layers nicely with a cardigan, leggings, and boots as the weather requires. Whether you’re getting ready for work or heading to the farmer’s market, the simple but flattering style is perfect to dress up or down.
Overall, I love this dress as a versatile, comfortable wardrobe staple. I couldn’t find anything I don’t like about it. I hope Athleta keeps making color options available in the future.
