K-Deer Caroline Stripe Leggings

May 11, 2017 / 22 Comments

I love teal and I love stripes, so I knew this pair of leggings would find their way to my closet sooner or later!  These newbies are just as beautiful in real life as I hoped they would be.

K-Deer’s Caroline stripes were made in collaboration with Carbon38, and are named for C38 cofounder Caroline Gogolak.  All the K-Deer stripes support a different charity: the Carolines support Inner-City Arts, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that creates space for urban youth to develop their creative potential.

I absolutely love the look of the Carolines with a white top.  It accentuates the bottom bands of the stripe pattern perfectly.  Black and like the shoes and sports bra make the look cohesive, and let the bright colors of the pants themselves be the center of attention.

Disclosure: these leggings were complimentary from K-Deer.  I’ve been a fan of K-Deer for a long time (this is stripes pair #7 for me) and all opinions are always my own.

I’ve written quite a lot about K-Deer’s stripes in my previous K-Deer reviews.  If you’re new to the brand, here’s a quick recap of the important things to know about them.

The fabric is a lightweight, slippery fabric that feels similar to swimsuit or tights material.  It is sensitive to abrasion and can snag, although I have not had this issue with any of my pairs yet.  I usually avoid wearing K-Deer when I’m dealing with rough barbell knurling or pointy branches while I’m hiking.  The fabric can range in coverage from totally opaque to slight show-through in a bend.  I opt for skin-colored underwear with mine.

K-Deers have a wide waistband with a super-high waist that hits just above my belly button.  The sneaker length is perfect for my 5’3″ frame, but full length and capris are also available depending on your height and preference.

Sizing runs tight.  If you are between sizes or aren’t sure, go with the larger size.  Once they arrive, you have to work them up your legs like pantyhose, as opposed to pulling them right on like jeans.

Here’s an extra tip I discovered about K-Deers recently.  If you have issues with your leggings sliding, the blame may lay with your underthings.  I have one particular pair of full-coverage briefs that make my K-Deers slide down horribly when I wear them together.  I never have this issue with any other undergarments and my K-Deers normally stay up perfectly.  There’s just something about the combination of the two fabrics that makes a slippery mess!  If you have slide-prone leggings, consider changing what’s underneath to see if you can solve the issue that way.

There’s still time to enter my blog bday outfit giveaway! Read the post here for more details.

OMG these look amazing. I’ve been lusting over the ankle length K-Deers since frugal February and I can’t decide if I want the Caroline, Laura, Izzy or Trina stripes. It way too greedy to have all 4! The white top looks fresh and clean, total love!

Mean question- Which one’s your favourite K-deer stripe so far?

Good tip on the underwear. I’ve been feeling my Jamie crops slipping lately and have been wondering if I should go with my smaller size but will try your underwear tip before deciding.

Oh man, that *is* a tough question. I’d probably have to put Caroline or Jamie at the top of the list. At least, for the moment! You really can’t go wrong with the 4 you mentioned, though.

I LOVE my Caroline stripes! They’re my favorite pair, although I’m lusting over the Laura stripes right now too. I haven’t gotten much wear out of them since I stopped doing hot yoga though which is a total bummer. I’m not sure if my regular gym is ready for such loud pants haha

You could always start out by wearing them with a plain black top and ease them into it that way. ;) I’m sure you’d get lots of compliments, they are so beautiful!

These look amazing on you! I have the izzy and the Alexis stripe in the sneaker length and they are perfect!! I have thought of the Caroline stripe but white makes me too nervous. I have matched a bunch of my lululemon swiftly shirts with these amazing pants!! Good to note about the underware. I notice more slippage with the boy shorts vs thong from zobha.

Thanks Ang! Since there isn’t too much white on them I hope they won’t be too difficult to keep un-stained. And the print is so loud I doubt anyone would notice a little mark on them anyway. ;) I love mine with swiftlies too!

You mentioned that you have 6 other pairs — which ones do you own?

Let’s see… Caroline, Laura, Trina, Izzy, Jamie, Alexis, and I’m also counting Jennifer as #7, which I had but recently passed along since I found I didn’t wear the red as much as my others. Don’t think I’m forgetting any!

The K Deer leggings look great on you! Unfortunately, their leggings have never really appealed to me. I guess I’m not really a crazy stripe person!

I wasn’t for a while, but as soon as I tried a pair I was hooked! That said, they’re definitely a bit much for some people, so to each her own. :)

Slippage is super annoying, so I will have to pass even though looks fab on you.

Thanks. :) I was able to fix the slippage problem really easily with these, but before I found a solution, I agree, it was ridiculously annoying!

I wore mine today while running at the gym with no slippage. Just need to get them pulled on all the way and they are golden. I do use a no show nude thong when wearing these. Lululemon has made me paranoid…
I absolutely adore these leggings for any type of workout. Even in the sneaker length I feel super cool and comfortable.

These look very cute! But, I am always a little surprised about the rave reviews K-Deer gets. The designs are great, but I really don’t like the fabric. To me, it looks shiny and feels cheap-ish. I hate to say this because I love the stripes, I really do. But, I have a pair and I never reach for them because they are not as nice as my Lululemon leggings in Luon or Luxtreme.

Yes!!!! I hate their fabric- it’s awful! I love the way they look and bought one pair, but gave them away as I couldn’t stand the fabric. Why can’t they make them out of something nicer?! I would buy 10 pairs in a heartbeat!

It’s certainly not the usual tights fabric so I can definitely see why you wouldn’t like it as much as others. But I like that with K-Deer, unlike lux/luon, the colors of the fabric stay true even when stretched (vs the white-out effect). That said, I wouldn’t mind if it was a little less delicate and made out of something closer to what Werkshop uses, for example.
